Freshman Assist: Big Family Project

The Freshman Assist program was visited by Jeanne Fowler from Big Family of Michigan. She was abused as a child and later as a foster child. Her story is heartbreaking. She decided to help other foster children as her life’s work. We built “love bags” consisting of a toothbrush, shampoo, a stuffed animal, and other items. The bags are given to children the night they are taken from an abusive home. The bag provides a little bit of comfort in a terrible situation. We also collected all of the coloring books that were placed in the bags. The students were really affected by Jeanne’s story, and did a great job at the warehouse. Here is a picture of the group.

Magical Band Trip

Nearly 130 of North’s talented instrumental musicians travelled to Florida in April to perform six concerts for the world to hear at Disney! On April 11th, our Norsemen musicians amazed the crowds at Downtown Disney; Saturday afternoon they performed at Festival Disney (a 3-day festival) along with thousands of other students from all over the nation. The prestigious panel of adjudicators awarded North’s Concert Band and Full Orchestra an "excellent" rating, and the Symphony Band received a "superior" rating (highest rating of the festival). When not performing, students enjoyed the parks at Animal Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Magic kingdom. Bravo on a truly magical journey!
