Dear GPPSS Family,
We are excited that the interest in Young Fives continues to exceeded our expectations. We are having an extremely successful inaugural year! The District will again offer Young Fives at Defer, Mason, and Poupard during the 2017-18 school year if enough families are interested. If enrollment indicates the need for additional classrooms, then we may open one or two additional sites if space is available. Throughout the enrollment process the District will continue to analyze actual enrollment numbers with respect to our Young Fives projection, as well as confirm residency and birthdates for eligibility.
Your help is crucial to planning! Please take the following steps to be eligible for the Young Fives program:
Step One - fill out this lottery form only if you live in the Ferry, Kerby, Maire, Monteith, Richard, or Trombly attendance area. This form is where you will select your building preference for the lottery. This will lead you to the next step of pre-enrollment. Otherwise, continue to the pre-enrollment online application.
Students accepted into the Young Fives program will be assigned to their neighborhood school if they live in the Defer, Mason, or Poupard attendance areas. This will also be true for any additional sites that may open.
Defer, Poupard, and Mason GPPSS Families must complete the enrollment process online and proof of residency at the administration building by April 13, 2017 before your child’s placement into the Young Fives can be confirmed. All students who resides in any of our GP Schools that sign up after April 13, 2017 will be placed on a waitlist.
Step Two - All GPPSS Families must complete the residency and enrollment process at the administration building by April 13, 2017 before your child’s placement into the lottery can be confirmed. All required forms are listed on the district website. The enrollment office is located at 389 St. Clair Avenue, and is open from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Call 313-432-3083 if you need an appointment outside of those hours. Step two must be completed for placement into the program.
Please note the following details regarding the process and student assignment to specific buildings:
If you do not want to attend your neighborhood school for Young Fives you would need to follow the In-District Transfer Process identified by Board Policy. The Policy and necessary forms are available on the district website under the enrollment tab.
Regardless of which building a student is assigned to for their Young Fives experience, they are expected to attend their neighborhood school for their traditional kindergarten experience in 2018-19.
The District will conduct a lottery based on parental preference regarding placement in the Young Fives program for Ferry, Kerby, Maire, Monteith, Richard, or Trombly students on April 17, 2017, with final notification to parents from all schools, regarding placement or acceptance into the program, no later than April 24, 2017.
All students who signed up after April 13, 2017 will be placed on a waitlist. If the District continues to experience additional enrollment, we may open one or two additional classroom if space is available.
