  • MACUL Award
    Nicholas Provenzano was awarded the Michigan Association of Computer Users in Learning's (MACUL) Technology Using Teacher of the Year Award for 2013 this past March. He was also awarded the International Society of Technology in Education's Most Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award for 2013 this June for his innovative use of social media in the classroom and his use of iPads to create a paperless environment.

Art Award

Congratulation to Zoie U for her 1st place win, as well as the other participants who met Congressman Peters at the 14th District Congressional Art Show.  Zoie will receive two complimentary tickets to go to the national event in Washington D.C. where she will be honored with other winners from across the nation, see her art hanging at the Capitol, meet our senator and tour Congress. Congratulations Art Department!

School News:
Seniors: The Class of 2013 Composite is on display across from the Student Activities Office, Room 236. If you have not ordered, see Mr. Cilluffo in Rm. 318. The copy of the composite is $20 and the deadline to order is May 24th.

The Faculty vs senior softball game is scheduled for Monday, June 3, at 4:00 on the boy’s baseball. Seniors (both guys and girls) sign up in Mr. Schultz’s room, 225. Everybody plays.

Tonight at 7 PM, the Bands and Orchestras of Grosse Pointe North and South High Schools will combine forces to present the annual North/South Outdoor Concert held outside in front of the North Performing Arts Center. Admission is free, and ice cream & snacks will be a sold.  In the event of poor weather, the concert will be held in the North Gymnasium.

Students who will take AP English Language and Composition the next school year must pick up their summer enrichment packets this week. AP Lang. and Comp. students should pick up their packets any day this week AFTER SCHOOL in room 294, Mrs. McCue’s classroom. 

Seniors: if you are not sure if you signed up for the all night party, a list is in the Student Activities Office, Room 236. There is still time to sign up and the event promised to be a lot of fun.  If you have any question, please see Mrs. Mitzel.

Any male senior that is planning on attending Michigan State or U of M in the fall, come to the CRC and pick up a scholarship application. 

Club News:

South Students:  Are you a composer wishing to have their music performed publicly on the June 5, Tri-M Composers Concert at 7:00pm in the South Auditorium?  Please submit your original composition before school to Mr. Gross by Friday, May 31.  Students do not need to be a current member of Tri-M to submit their works.

Freshman Class council will be selling Mr. C’s car wash tickets today at both lunches in the main hallway.  Tickets cost $10 and can be redeemed for a $15 car wash.  It is a great gift idea for Father’s Day!

Interact Service Club will have an end-of-year party and last meeting today and you are invited after school in room 297, we will prepare for Saturday’s charity car wash and preview some summer project possibilities.

The yearbooks will be in on Tuesday, May 28th starting 3rd hour in the Girls Gym.  You MUST have ID to pick your book. We will sell extra yearbooks on Wednesday in room 118 for $60.00 each.

Sports:
Varsity Football Players for the 2013 season.  The 100 Day Meeting will take place today after school at 3:30 in the Boll Center Meeting room.  Plan on attending this brief meeting where important information will be covered.  Go South!

MEN’S TRACK FINISHED THE REGULAR SEASON WITH A 2ND PLACE FINISH AT THE MAC RED LEAGUE MEET LEAGUE CHAMPIONS WERE:  JORDAN S IN HIGH JUMP WITH A PERSONAL BEST OF 6 FT 4 IN ROBERT B WITH A P.R. IN THE 300 HURDES, CHARLIE WN IN THE 800 M AND 2  RELAYS... THE 4 X 200 OF ANTONIO M, JAMES P, SPRATT, & LARRY B AND THE MILE RELAY OF MOORE, KOTAS, and WARREN & BORUM. BORUM ALSO TOOK THE SILVER IN THE 400 M   WHILE KOTAS GRABBED THE BRONZE ON THE 800 M. OTHER MEDALISTS OF NOTE: MATT G & MIKE G WENT 3RD & 5TH IN THE 2 MILE. THE 4 X 100 OF MOORE, PYE, SPRATT, & BORUM GOT THE SILVER. THE 4 X 800 RELAY OF MIKE A, MIKE F, and GEIST & NICK D WAS 5TH. IN THE FIELD: THE LONG JUMP TRIO OF MOORE, JORDAN M, & JALEN C WENT 3, 4, & 5. POLE VAULTERS STEFANO L & ALEX L WENT 4TH & 5TH. REMINDER TO TEAM... TURN IN YOUR GEAR & SHIRT MONEY TO COACH SCHIENKE IN THE FIELD ROOM AFTER SCHOOL THURSDAY OR FRIDAY

Our girls track team continues to shine with an undefeated season.  The girls competed in the MAC Red Division Championship Meet yesterday and raced to nine new all time league records.  Congratulations!  The only meet remaining for the team is the state finals on June 1st.  South will be attempting to win their third straight state division 1 title.
