  • Gymnastics League Champs!

    Congratulations to the gymnastics team for winning the League Championships!  Grosse Pointe Gymnasts also won multiple individual titles - Isabelle N won the division 1 all-around, vault, bars, and floor championships, Maria N won the division 1 beam and floor championships and Michelle E won the division 2 all-around, bars, and floor titles. Gyanei' J also finished second in division 2 all-around and Brenna B, Chandler M, and Rachel R all medalled in several events.

Daily News for March 5, 2015

School News:
Grosse Pointe South High School will be hosting the 35th annual College Night today from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  There are expected to be over 100 Colleges and Universities represented this year.  

The deadline for the Mothers' Club scholarship application is today at 3:30 p.m. in the Counseling Center. 

AP Students:  The deadline for registering for AP exams is Friday.  Get your forms and payment to Mrs. Buckler in the Records Room.

There will be no library usage during MME testing for lunches and tutorials today and Friday. Computer access will be available before and after school in lab 254.

Club News:
Are you interested in running for an officer position for the 2015-2016 school year?  Officers include President, VP, Secretary, & Treasurer for the class councils & SA.  Make sure to attend one of the two MANDATORY meetings next week! Please come on Tuesday, March 10th at 7:15am or after school on Wednesday, March 11th to room 204.  If you want to run for an officer position, you must attend one of these meetings! Senator info meetings will be held after spring break. 

This past weekend the robotics team, the Gearheads, competed in their first competition of the season. In this year’s game the robots must stack gray and yellow totes and green recycling cans. After the first day and a half of round robin play the team finished in 8th place out of 40 team from all over Michigan. They were selected to the playoffs and with their team of three robots lost a close match in the finals to finish second in the tournament. Great job Gearheads.

All CURRENT NHS members you have an NHS meeting on Monday, March 9th beginning at 3:10 pm in the Student Commons.  Please be sure to be on time and wear your NHS shirt to school.

This past weekend five students from South participated in the 4th Annual Louder Than A Bomb Poetry Slam in Ann Arbor.  Please congratulate Babe Carlisle, Max Gamero, Lauren Pankin, Natalie Schunk, and Stephanie Zampardo on a fantastic effort.

Architecture Club will meet NEXT Wednesday, March 11, in room 215.  See Ms. Dolson for more information.

Interact will meet after school todayin room 297. Join us as we get ready to help with a Kids Against Hunger project at Memorial Church this Saturday! Interact—room 297!

All interested Pointe Players and South Thespians! It's time again for the Grosse Pointe Theatre Scholarship Auditions -  Saturday, April 25th at 315 Fisher Rd., at 10 AM. All applications must be received no later than April 15th, 2015. Forms are on the Pointe Players and GPT website. See Ms. Dunham with any questions - go win that money!

Come and cheer your favorite high school synchronized swimming team at their annual community performance this weekend. The Grosse Pointe Blue Dolphins will be swimming in their annual water show on Saturday, March 7th at 4pm in the Grosse Pointe South pool, and Sunday, March 8th at 3pm in the Grosse Pointe North pool. The performance is open to the public, offering student and senior discounts.

Girls track conditioning practices run this week through today.  Practices each day are at 3:30 PM in the field gym.

For all girls interested in playing South soccer this upcoming spring, tryouts will be held next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, from 4:30-6:30 at Total Soccer.  You must bring a completed gold card and physical in order to tryout.  

The MHSAA state diving regionals are tonight at Birmingham Groves. Erik Romer and Grady Eger will compete for a top-12 finish to advance and represent South at the State Meet next week. Please show your support for our two divers!  Go South!

Your boys’ varsity hockey team won their opening round playoff game 4-3 in overtime against rival De La Salle. It was an epic battle by both teams. Special congratulations to winning South goalie and former De La Salle Pilot-Andy Jakub.  Your Blue Devils will now face Anchor Bay on Friday, March 6th-for the regional championship.  Game time is 6:30 pm at the Mt. Clemens Ice Arena.  Please, come out and support our boys varsity hockey team on their quest for the title....... GO SOUTH!!!
