Sojourner Truth Essay Contest

Award:  1st place $500, 2nd place $200, 3rd place $100

Deadline:  November 20, 2009

Any high school junior or senior  from Grosse Pointe.  A 500-750 word essay that is typed and double-spaced.  Judging will be on quality of writing and clarity of message.    Essay submissions should elaborate on what this quote from Sojourner Truth means in terms of modern international relations: 
 
"Those are the same stars, and that is the same moon, that look down upon your brothers and sisters, and which they see as they look up to them, though they are ever so far away from us, and each other."

Award:  $2500

Deadline:  November 25, 2009

Awarding scholarships to high school seniors who plan to attend a college or university.  Criteria will be students who have demonstrated exceptional involvement in volunteerism and community service, in addition to academics and other criteria.  One $25,000 will be awarded nationally.  Visit www.metropcs.com/scholarship for an application.

 
 
 

 

Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award Application

Rare Everyday Heros

Award:  $2500

Deadline:  December 1, 2009

Students must be graduating in May or June and attending a Michigan college or university in the fall of 2010.  Students must submit an original essay about someone they consider an everyday hero.  GPA or test scores are not a part of this scholarship.  For more details, official rules and online entry form, please visit

NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation Award

Award (150) $1000-$10,000

Deadline:  December 31, 2009

Bruegger's Enterprises, Inc. Scholarship Fund 2009-2010

Award:  Three $5000

Deadline:  January 1, 2010
