 Meet Your School Board
2012 Board Officers were voted upon at the Board of Education's January 23rd meeting.
Judy Gafa, President

Judy Gafa graduated from Madonna University with a BSN (Bachelors of Science in Nursing) and a minor in Natural Science. She started her Nursing career at Beaumont Hospital in ICU and Critical Care and currently works as the Wellness Nurse at Sunrise Assisted Living on Mack in Grosse Pointe Woods. She lives in Grosse Pointe Woods, with husband Kenneth and 3 children who attend Grosse Pointe Schools. Judy was elected to the Board in November, 2008, and her term expires on December 31, 2012.
Lois Valente, Vice President

Lois Valente is a 20 year resident of Grosse Pointe Park and has three children attending GPPSS. She has been active in the schools, serving as a past president of the Partnership for Different Learners PTO, a PTO Council representative, on the Strategic Planning committee, and as a member of the hiring committee for the GPPSS Director of Student Services. Lois has also been active in the community, as a member of the Grosse Pointe Park Little League and as a Medicare/Medicaid counseling volunteer for the Area Agency on Aging. With 25 years in business and education strategic planning, Lois is currently employed at Wayne State University. Her term expires December 31, 2016.

Daniel Roeske, Secretary

Dan Roeske was elected to the Board in November 2011. He is a resident of Grosse Pointe Farms with his wife and their three children, each of whom attend GPPSS. He has been a member of the Kerby Elementary and Brownell Middle School PTOs and the South High School Mother's Club. Dan has also been active in Boy Scouts, serving as Scoutmaster of Troop 96 for four years. Mr. Roeske holds a B.S. in Public Administration and Marketing from Eastern Michigan University and a M.Ed. in Instructional Design and Performance Improvement from Wayne State University. He is manager of training for an automotive finance company. His term expires December 31, 2016.
Brendan Walsh, Treasurer

Brendan Walsh was first appointed to the Board in August 2005, then elected to a four-year seat in May 2006. He is a lifelong resident of Grosse Pointe Park and a Grosse Pointe South graduate. Mr. Walsh earned a B.A. and a teacher's certificate (English, Latin) from the University of Michigan -Ann Arbor. Mr. Walsh taught at the high school level before entering the private sector. He is a consultant for a publicly held information technology firm. Mr. Walsh and his wife Sarah are the parents of three children who attend Defer Elementary. His term expires December 31, 2014.

Tom Jakubiec, Trustee

Tom Jakubiec was elected to the Board in November 2009. He is a resident of Grosse Pointe Woods with his wife, Biljana, and their two sons. He and his wife are active members of the Ferry Elementary PTO where their two sons attend and he has also been active in both the Neighborhood Club and Little League team sports. Mr. Jakubiec holds a B.B.A. in Business Analysis from Texas A&M University and a M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Wayne State University. He is looking forward to using his experience from EDS, Toyota, and General Motors, along with input from the residents and school district staff, to maintain the total learning experience for the district's resident children. His term expires December 31, 2013.
Joan Dindoffer, Trustee
Joan Dindoffer was first elected to the Board in June 1997. She holds a B. A. in political science from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from Wayne State University Law School. She is currently Vice President in the Wealth Management Division of Comerica Bank, and is a member of the Tax and Probate Section of the State Bar of Michigan. Ms. Dindoffer has been awarded the Certificate of Merit by the Michigan Association of School Boards, having completed board certification and training. She and her husband, Fred, live in Grosse Pointe Park and are the parents of three Grosse Pointe South graduates. Ms. Dindoffer was Board Secretary from 1997-00, Vice-President from 2000-02, President from 2002-04, Treasurer from 2005-06, and Secretary in 2009. Her term expires December 31, 2013.

Cindy Pangborn, Trustee
{Cindy} Cindy Pangborn was elected to the Board in November, 2009. She previously served on the Board from 1995-1999. As an active volunteer for our school system, Cindy personally televised the Board meetings for five years until the school system was able to televise them. Mrs. Pangborn is a lifelong resident of Grosse Pointe and graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in 1964. Cindy and her husband Jim have raised four children. They all attended Grosse Pointe Public Schools graduating from Grosse Pointe South in '88, '93, '95 and 2005. Cindy is a Realtor with Johnstone and Johnstone Real Estate and is a certified specialist in short sales and foreclosures. Her term expires December 31, 2012.
